The fight against heroin may be paying off in the St. Louis area. Over the past couple of years, more and more 18 to 24 year old were taking the drugs. But an effort by St. Louis County police is showing results after a series of town hall meetings.

Consider this fact: there were 25 heroin-related deaths in the first six months of 2012. That’s down from 39 deaths during the same period last year.

One clinic on the front line battling drug addiction is ARCA, the Assisted Recovery Centers of America. The clinic uses FDA-approved medication that remove cravings for various drugs including alcohol, which allows patients to return to work within days.

Suneal Menzies is the programs director. He talked about the encouraging decrease in death for heroin usage in St. Louis.
